Athens Travel Guide You Need At Every Step

The city that flaunts the Acropolis and Parthenon and the finest museums in the world has always been highly coveted. While the Turks and Byzantines tried to establish their stronghold over the powerful city, they plundered many treasures but left unique structures of their own. The lovely byzantine churches and the Turkish bath and mosque are testimony to the rule of different empires.

The metro took a formidable time to be built here…digging often lead to priceless treasures and archaeologists rushed here too marvel at the findings. Commuting and attraction hopping are seamless here as many metro stops have their own museums.

The city which is associated with Socrates and Plato and their infinite wisdom knows how to celebrate its nights. Whether it’s sampling spiced ouzo on a rooftop bar or watching a cult movie at an amphitheatre or living it up in a nightclub…Athens is a feast for the faculties and senses.

Choose between dining at Michelin starrers and two table cafes and stare at the artwork created by Greek artists in their open studios. Take a ferry and move away to any of the Greek islands or watch the acropolis swathed in moonlight. And when your mind is full with the wonders of Athens, try your hand at the fantastic shopping streets of Kolonaki, Plaka and Syntgama.

In Athens it’s hard to choose what to see …all of it is a giant exhibit and yet the historic city centre is wonderfully compact and totally exportable by foot. Learn in detail about historic Athens in our exhaustive guide.
